He Ara Whakamua: Māori Health Strategy 2024-2027

He Ara Whakamua is our guiding strategy to improve Māori health outcomes and embed equity across everything we do. Developed in response to long-standing disparities, it reflects our shared commitment to working alongside Māori communities, iwi, hapū and whānau to deliver culturally responsive, whānau-centred care.

Pinnacle supports primary care across a large and diverse region, including rural communities, high-deprivation areas, and communities with large Māori populations. Health equity is at the heart of our work.

This is not a static document. He Ara Whakamua is a living framework that supports our teams, services and governance to apply a Māori equity lens to planning, decision-making and service delivery. It reflects our values, our history of partnership with Māori organisations, and our responsibility under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

He Ara Whakamua guides us to:

  • strengthen relationships with Iwi Māori Partnership Boards (IMPBs)
  • design services that reflect local context and mana whenua aspirations
  • support Māori-led innovation and workforce development
  • use data meaningfully to inform decisions and track progress
  • shift towards prevention and wellness-focused models of care.

This is a journey that requires leadership, commitment and action at every level. Together, we are working towards Whānau Ora — Pae Ora: a state of health and wellbeing for all.
