Free after hours care for children under 14

This is a restricted service, Pinnacle practices in the Tairāwhiti region can only claim for this service if they have an after-hours clinic available.   

The contracted general practice will provide this service from 6pm to 8am on working days and at all times on weekends and public holidays in their region. All eligible children will not pay for general medical services/consultations during these times. 

The service must be of a type normally provided as part of general practice. 

The contracted practice must provide a clinical record of the after-hours consultation to the general practice that the child is enrolled with as soon as possible, unless requested not to do so by the parent or child. 

Patients must be: 

• eligible to receive publicly funded services and ineligible for any other funded service such as ACC funded services; and 
• present with conditions that cannot be safely deferred until 8am on the next working day when general practice is open for normal business; and 
• be under 14 years old; and 
• be either casual or enrolled; and 
• present for treatment in the DHB region in which your general practice referred to above is based. 

Patients may be local or non-local to your practice region. 

Patients who are not eligible to receive publicly funded services and are eligible for any other funded service such as ACC funded services. 

Prices are GST inclusive (and as of 1 July 2024). 

• Free after-hours care for children aged 0-5 years of age: $28.35.
• Free after-hours care for children aged 6-13 years of age: $54.42.

Claims must be submitted in the electronic format as provided by Pinnacle Midlands Health Network with all mandatory information for the service is required, claims will only be paid on completion in the electronic form.
