Long acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs)

All Pinnacle practices in Waikato region can claim for this service, provided they have suitably trained staff able to perform the required procedures.

This funding provides the following at no cost to the patient:

• contraceptive consultations relating to long acting reversible contraceptives, including administration of Depo Provera
• insertion of contraceptive implants and IUDs
• removal of these devices.

There is a maximum of two no-cost contraception consultations per woman per annum, or a maximum of four per annum for Depo Provera.

If you are not able to provide any of these procedures for your patients, this care can be provided by another practice in your area. This can be arranged by direct contact between you and the other practice. The practice performing the procedure will invoice Pinnacle directly and there will still be no cost to the patient.

• All patients aged under 25 years AND patients aged over 25 years who are either:

  • Māori/Pacific
  • a Community Services Card holder
  • living in a rural community (practices who receive rural funding).
• Practices who hold a Free Under 25s Contraceptive and Sexual Health Agreement can only claim consultations under one agreement, not both.
• This programme is also funded for casual patients who may be referred to you via another service or may be drop-ins. In these cases, you can only invoice for this service and no other off set can be claimed.
• Patients domiciled in Te Whatu Ora Waikato area.

Please make your claim via Primary Options, select LARCS and then attach the appropriate invoice(s).

Claims are all inclusive of the consultation, the insertion, observation time and consumables.

Prices listed below are all GST inclusive

• No-cost contraceptive consultation relating to long acting reversible contraceptives, which may include Depo Provera administration (VLCA and/or CSC) $30(maximum 4 per year)
• No-cost contraceptive consultation relating to long acting reversible contraceptives, which may include Depo Provera administration (non-VLCA/non-CSC) $48.41(maximum 4 per year)
• Jadelle or IUD insertion $177.68.
• Jadelle removal $177.68
• IUD removal $88.84
• LARC removal and insertion during the same consultation $266.51

Please note that you can not claim a consultation for the same day you claim for insertion and/or removal of a device.  

Practices are required to provide sufficiently detailed consultation notes to determine appropriate use of funding.
