When a patient eligible for bowel screening has a practice appointment, their status is added to the patient prompt. It is now easier than ever to act on the prompt and order a FIT kit for priority populations, Māori/Pasifica and those residing in deprivation 9 and 10 through a new process now live via BPAC, and in indici, Dashboard and Mōhio practice management systems across the region.
This allows a “one click” e-referral to the National Bowel Screening Programme coordination centre who will send out a FIT kit when the “Refer to NBSP” button is clicked. View how it looks in the BPAC prompt.
One challenge we have is to increase the “completion participation rate” for the programme as a whole, currently sitting at 50-57 per cent overall, but with a big gap for Māori and Pasifika participation (see the above diagram).
Using the prompt and one click referral to make it easier to 'do the right thing' for the patient in front of you will hopefully have an impact.
