National Bowel Screening Programme May promotion

General practices are invited to take part in the National Bowel Screening Programme (NBSP) May primary care promotion to increase bowel screening participation among under-screened groups and improve patient outcomes.

The May campaigns in 2023, 2024 and 2025 were highly successful, increasing kit requests among under-screened groups. This year’s promotion aims to build on that success and drive even greater participation.

Your support plays an important role in improving bowel screening uptake and reducing inequities for our communities. Read more on the Health and Research Collaborative website.

Register your practice

Register now to access free resources and participate in the campaign. Once registered, your practice will receive a resource pack and access to campaign support. You may also be contacted by your district bowel screening team, to support you to register and take part.

Opportunistic conversations

A key aim of the campaign is to encourage opportunistic conversations with eligible patients. Importantly, any member of the practice team can play a role. In many practices, clinicians initiate the conversation, with a delegated team member completing the explanations and kit order.

  • Have a conversation with priority group patients who have not completed bowel screening.
  • Use the desk top trifold to guide the conversation.‍
  • GPs and practice nurses are encouraged to initiate discussions about bowel screening during consultations to support informed decision-making.

For those less familiar with bowel screening, education modules are available via Ko Awatea Learn, while promotional resources are available on the HealthEd website.

Drop-in Teams session to support practices

This session will provide a quick overview of the campaign, how to use the resources, and a chance to ask questions.
