Help shape the future of malnutrition care in Aotearoa
Published: 21 July 2025
Malnutrition (undernutrition) results in weight loss, muscle and fat depletion, compromised physical and mental function, and poor recovery outcomes. It is both a cause and a consequence of ill health, leading to delayed healing and recovery, and increased hospital length of stay and healthcare costs.
Unlike other countries, Aotearoa New Zealand does not have a national malnutrition policy. This means our practices and standards for identifying, assessing, and treating malnutrition are inconsistent across all healthcare settings.
Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland is inviting primary health care professionals to complete a survey to help build a clearer picture of current practice.
Please consider participating in this 10 minute survey of malnutrition practice.
Mātauranga Hauora, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, is interested in hearing from a variety of primary health care practitioners. This survey will provide baseline information about policy and practice.
- If you work with adults in primary health in Aotearoa New Zealand they'd love to hear your thoughts.
- Nurses, GPs, dietitians, health coaches – your views are important.
The survey will close Monday 4 August 2025.
This study has been approved by the Auckland Health Research Ethics Committee on 10 July 2025 for three years. Reference number AH29045.
