Changes to immunisation funding, implementation update
Te Whatu Ora has shared an update on changes to immunisation funding, which came into effect as part of the annual PHO services agreement uplift from 1 July 2025. The update also covers recent immunisation funding back payments that practices or providers may have received. For queries, contact primary.care@tewhatuora.govt.nz.
Immunisation co-administration fee and COVID-19 administration fee
Due to the need for more substantive system changes, the implementation of the standard co-administration fee and COVID-19 administration fee has taken more time than anticipated. Following consultation with PMS vendors, Te Whatu Ora is aiming to implement changes by 1 July 2026.
- Co-administration fee: Until the required changes are made, please continue to claim for any immunisations given in the same way that you did prior to 1 July 2025. Backdated entitlements are being calculated and paid.
- COVID-19 administration will be activated from 1 July 2026. Back payments for COVID-19 administration, at the new rate from 1 July 2025 are being prepared, and co-administration fees for COVID immunisations will apply from 1 July 2026.
Summary of changes agreed from 1 July 2025
- Increasing the standard immunisation rate to $46.00 (GST exclusive).
- Increasing the Influenza rate to $37.50 (GST exclusive).
- The introduction of a standard co-administration fee of $20.52 (GST exclusive) whenever more than one immunisation is delivered.
