Bexsero vaccine errors

Published: 23 March 2025

There has been an increase in reported vaccine errors, particularly due to the incorrect spacing of the Bexsero vaccine doses. It has been recognised that the Patient Management Systems often fail to recognise when a Bexsero dose is administered late, subsequently not accounting for the required 8-week or 6-month intervals. Medtech are planning to release an update in April to address this issue. To assist with ensuring the correct scheduling of the Bexsero vaccine, the Immunisation Advisory Centre (IMAC) has provided an error warning document  (PDF). Its use is strongly recommended for double-checking the appropriate spacing and schedule for Bexsero vaccinations. If you have any questions or require further clarification, please contact either Helen Ride on 021 683 997 (Waikato) or Pam Rudolph on 027 227 0910 (Waikato), or contact IMAC clinical advice: 0800 IMMUNE (0800 466 863), 8.30am – 5pm weekdays.
